Project Overview
DM Roofing were delighted to be commissioned for a historic conversion project of the Dougarie Boathouse on the Isle of Arran. The work was carried out in conjunction with the surveyors, Quantum Solutions.
Building Background
The boathouse is a Category B Listed Building, designed by eminent Scottish Architect Sir JJ Burnett FRSE, FRIBA, RSA. The building dates from around 1900 and is an unusual twin-gabled form with swept-away eaves, constructed of red sandstone and featuring a central gabled veranda.
Project Challenges
Unfortunately, the building had fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years and was in need of a significant renovation to restore its prestige.
Scope of Work
Maintain Tradition:
New elements made to match original look of the building.
Weather Proof:
All slating and lead elements installed ensuring ability to withstand coastal elements.
New slate and roof areas:
New Spanish slate installed to 95% of the building and roof areas above front entrance done with Scotch slate to give original appearance.
Outcome
The restored Boathouse at Dougarie can now host weddings or other special events. DM Roofing was delighted to be a part of this project and would like to give special thanks to the Gibbs family, as well as Quantum Solutions.
